Chris, how could Artificial Intelligence and Big Data transform the human role and employment?

Both artificial intelligence and Big Data will have a tremendous impact on employment particularly for knowledge worker jobs. Jobs where people used to manage the movement of data through organizations. Computers will do all that going forward. And so where we’ll still need people involved is interpreting that information, putting it to use and ensuring, again, that our values are followed. Setting up value systems for organizations and making sure that when computers automatically act upon this information, they are doing it according to our will.

So that’s one of the challenges of Artificial Intelligence and that’s going to change the roles that people play in organizations. No longer shepherding data but making sure that the systems that do things automatically do so the way that we intent.

Chris, what are the main aspects of the new worker?

New workers that are going to work in this world are going to be very flexible, they’re going to know when they need to be flexible and when they need to be firm on values and they are going to understand how to digest a lot of information, make sense of it quickly and decide quickly. It’s going to be interpretation and it’s going to be speed, while staying value centered. It’s going to be a big challenge, but that’s human role in this new world of data that we’re going to.
